Vietnam’s tourism accelerates, affirming its position as a key economic sector

The year 2025 closes with a special milestone for Vietnamese tourism: for the first time, the number of international visitors surpassed 20 million, continuing to be a bright spot in the country’s socio-economic landscape. This result not only reflects the strong recovery of the sector after a challenging period but also affirms the increasingly prominent role of tourism as a key economic industry, directly contributing to growth and enhancing the nation’s standing.

The event of welcoming the 20 millionth international visitor in 2025 is a historic milestone for Vietnam’s tourism industry.

In the context of global tourism gradually recovering, the growth rate of tourism in Vietnam has emerged as a highlight. In 2025, the number of international visitors to Vietnam is expected to increase by about 22%, several times higher than the world’s average tourism growth of 5% and far exceeding the 8% growth of the Asia-Pacific region. Notably, compared to the period before the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam’s tourism has recovered to over 110%, while the Asia-Pacific region has only reached about 90%.

Vietnam’s tourism brand continues to be recognized internationally as Vietnam was named “World’s Leading Heritage Destination” for the sixth time, “Asia’s Leading Destination” for the seventh time, and “Asia’s Best Golf Destination” for the ninth time. These prestigious international awards not only acknowledge the rich tourism resources but also reflect the effectiveness of the renewed management mindset, promotion efforts, and international integration in the tourism sector.

Attending and directing the Conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh summarized the results and achievements of the sector in 2025 and the 2021-2025 term: “Culture in depth, spreading; sports focused and prioritized; tourism accelerating and breaking through; communication consolidating trust; internal mutual care and support; achievements elevated and upgraded.”

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh speaks at the conference reviewing the work of 2025, the 2021-2025 term, and implementing key tasks for 2026 of the Ministry and the culture, sports, and tourism sector.
