Vietnam was honored as the Top Destination in Asia and the Top Heritage Destination in Asia for 2026

On the evening of September 27th in the Maldives, the World Travel Awards for the Asia, Oceania, and Indian Ocean regions 2026 took place. Vietnam was once again honored with two major titles: “Asia’s Leading Destination 2026” and “Asia’s Leading Heritage Destination 2026.”

Notably, this is the 8th time Vietnam has been awarded the title of ‘Asia’s Leading Destination’ and the 4th time to receive the title of ‘Asia’s Leading Heritage Destination,’ continuing to recognize the appeal of Vietnam as a destination at one of the prestigious awards in the international tourism industry.

Not only being honored at the national level, many localities and destinations in Vietnam continue to make their mark in important categories of the 2026 World Travel Awards, showing that the appeal of Vietnamese tourism is increasingly diverse, spreading from major cities and event centers to natural, cultural, and heritage destinations.

Hanoi was awarded the title ‘Asia’s Leading City Destination for Short Breaks.’ Ho Chi Minh City continued to assert its strength in urban tourism by receiving two titles: ‘Asia’s Leading Event & Festival Destination’ and ‘Asia’s Leading Business Tourism Destination.’ The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism was honored as ‘Asia’s Leading Local Tourism Authority.’

At the rising destinations, Son La province has two representatives honored: Ta Xua with the title ‘Asia’s Leading Emerging Destination’ and Moc Chau with the title ‘Asia’s Leading Nature Destination’.

These results show that Vietnam’s tourism advantages are not just tied to a single type of attraction, but are increasingly being showcased across many areas, from culture, heritage, nature, and resorts to urban tourism, events, and official trips.
