Ta Xua (Son La) – Vietnam’s cloud hunting paradise making its mark on the international travel map
From a highland area covered in clouds year-round, Ta Xua is proving its strong appeal amid a spectacular transformation as it is proposed to be recognized as a provincial-level tourist site and also nominated for the prestigious World Travel Awards in the Asia region. This impressive rise not only confirms its status as a ‘cloud-hunting paradise’ but also elevates the Son La tourism brand to the international stage.

Ta Xua “cloud hunting paradise”
“The cloud-hunting paradise” in the forests of Northwest Vietnam
Located at an altitude of about 1,500 meters above sea level at the eastern gateway of Son La province, Ta Xua enjoys a cool climate all year round along with a rich ecosystem that includes over 200 hectares of ancient Shan (mountain) snow tea trees hundreds of years old. The charm of this land lies in the sea of clouds swirling and filling the valleys on ideal weather days. The cloud-hunting season lasts from October to April of the following year, with the period from December to February being the best time to witness this natural masterpiece. Besides the sea of clouds, the vibrant spring blossoms and the lush green summer stretching across Dragon’s Back, Ta Xua Prairie, Dolphin Peak, and the Lonely Tree also contribute to creating a multi-dimensional, deeply emotional highland landscape.

“Dinosaur back”
Not stopping at its natural strengths, Ta Xua is clearly shaping up to be a multi-experience destination, blending peaceful stays in rustic wooden homestay- houses with adventurous challenges on mountain trails and exploring mysterious primeval forests. The charm of the journey also lies in the unique local culture of the Hmong people, where visitors can enjoy ancient tea by the fire and savor Northwest mountain flavors like grilled native pork, hill chicken, grilled stream fish, cat cabbage, and sweet forest bamboo shoots.
